I had a hard time at first in the "Real World". I have just started seeing a counsler to help me get through some issues I have and unresolved resentment for growing up a JDub. It takes time to heal. Stay strong and do whatever it takes.

Trouble dealing with life as an ex-JW
by YellowLab ini'm interested in finding out if anyone here who is an ex-dub has taken or still takes prescription anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medication to deal with feelings of inadequacy and inexperience with life outside of the wts, relationship problems, stress/anger, low self-esteem, etc.. i still suffer with self-esteem/image problems as well as stress with life in general after leaving the wts.
i often feel alone and inexperienced when dealing with life's problems, and often find it difficult to handle conflict/disagreements with loved ones when they arise.
i feel these occurrences are a personal attack on myself.. i just started attending counseling to deal with these problems, and it was mentioned that an anti-depressant may help.

Thanks everyone for the replies. It helps. I get tired of putting a smile on my face to come to work. It's hard work pretending everything is normal during the day. Then I go home a break down after I put the kids to bed. Everyday it gets a little easier.

I just need a place to vent. I just broke up with my boyfriend of 12 years. We have two kids together. And of course my family doesn't really talk to me. I was with him when I got DF'd. I have done everything with his family for the past 12 years. Now what? What about holidays and birthdays and vacation? I am having a real hard time with this. First, I don't want to be a single parent. Second, I miss having a partner. I haven't been alone in a long time. I can't stop crying. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I just got tired. I had to have a couple of beers just to sit through the Bull I was hearing every week. Finally I decided to stay home and drink. Why waste my gas.

Thanks for the replies. Why is it always the mother dictating the attitude for everyone else in the family? I have very little to say to my mom. I still love her and respect her for being my mother but somehow she can't do the same for me. Oh well, her loss.

i think i've been doing rather well up until this point.

No they all are fanantics. Don't waste your energy trying to explain who you are. Be yourself.

My sister and brother who were never baptized and have done everything short of stealing money from them are treated like royalty. Better yet, my sister who is baptized and lives with her boyfriend is invited to their house for diner. They know about the boyfriend but as long as she pretends he doesn't exist, then everything is normal. They don't even pressure her about not going to the meetings.
Makes me mad. I am the most responsible out of their children. What do I get? Treated like a sh**.

Why do most brothers work in the cleaning business?
by JH inwhen i joined the jw's many years ago, i couldn't get over how many were working in the cleaning business.
i know this permitted them to go to the meetings, out in the field service, and work without any conflict.. where did this trend start?
is it like this world wide?

That is so sad. Sometimes I drive past the old neighborhood where I used to live. Most of the families in the cong did some type of cleaning job. They still live in the same neighborhood. My parents also live in the same neighborhood. They don't have any other goals in life. The neighborhood hasn't improved in the last 15 years. It's filled with people who are uneducated, low income or one step away from being on welfare. The best thing that happened to me was leaving.
